Happy Friday ya babes. It’s almost spring, the time of rebirth, new beginnings and fresh starts. In the fashion world, it’s also the peak of newness, where new designs, trends and names go from the runways to retailers, and it’s damn exciting. Though spring/summer are my least favorite fashion seasons, SS16 does not disappoint. Time to spring clean your closet and some serious Marie Kondo purging to make way for block heels, bright leather jackets and rigid denim.
- Netflix will be producing a series based on Sophia Amaruso, the ultimate #Girlboss and founder of Nasty Gal. Whether it be a docu-series or sartorial spin-off of a reality show, I can guarantee I’ll be binge-watching this with my copy of Girl Boss in one hand and a tub of ice cream in the other.
- Phoebe Philo is rumored to be stepping down from the house of Céline, where she reigned supreme since 2008. Don’t worry though, girl moves on fast. It has been exhibited that Philo will play a role at Alaïa (!!!!!), and I’ll be here, patiently waiting for preseason photos to be leaked. Will report back in due time. Curious to see how Philo will bring her laid back luxe aesthetic to the glamorous house of Azzedine Alaïa.
- Zara, as you may know, can be a major hit or miss. When’s it good, it’s great, but when it’s bad – well, you know. They slayed AW15 with their jewel toned suedes and old world-meets-70s vibe. Rest assured, SS16 does not disappoint. With a refreshing lack of pink, SS16 is focused on androgynous cuts in earth tone colors. Although, there is a bright yellow moto jacket (and matching skirt) that won’t make you look like a Peeps marshmallow.
- Block heels are back: Block heel mules, flats, booties, lace ups, sneakers etc. are seen from the front row to the window displays of fast fashion houses. Though many designers like Maryam Nassir Zadeh have produced variations of the block heel for seasons coming, names from Aquazzura to Jeffrey Campbell are spewing out designs to grab now.
