I’ve struggled with high maintenance skin since I was 17. Acne-prone, dehydrated, red and textured, my skin hates everything. It’s highly reactive to things I eat, things I put on it, etc. My relationship with makeup is love/hate. I wear it to cover my scars, hyperpigmentation and acne but fear that all the cake is causing me to breakout even further. Such a vicious cycle. It started in high school when I began getting little red spots and oily skin. I walked into Sephora, bought Clinique’s Even Better Foundation (my first and most hated foundation) because it promised coverage with skincare benefits.
Flash forward 4 years and not much has changed. My skin went from teenage to hormonal acne; as opposed to small spots all over my face, I get painful cystic acne around my chin. I know this is all TMI, but to anyone who knows the struggle, this one’s for you.
I struggle mostly with stubborn hyperpigmentation and breakouts around my chin, so I have an intensely detailed skincare routine in hopes of minimizing my need for full coverage makeup.
In comes the It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream. A hybrid between stable skincare and highly pigmented CC Cream, this stuff performs like a full coverage foundation while delivering skincare ingredients that work overtime to improve skin texture and even tone over time. Another un-hyperbolized fact: it offers more coverage than Makeup Forever’s HD Foundation. I know, exclamation point^100.
Not to mention it’s paraben-free with an SPF 50+ UVA/UVB Broad Spectrum physical sunscreen. The hydrating formula is infused with effective ingredients like peptides, niacin, algae, vitamins A, C, B, E, hyaluronic acid, and other anti-oxidants and “exotic natural botanicals for long-term brightening and color-correcting benefits.” I’m sold. Peptides plump the skin, niacinimide combats uneven tone and all those vitamins target uneven texture. Not to mention the importance of wearing SPF, especially to prevent wrinkles and hyperpigmentation (if you have breakouts, the sun can deepen the redness and obstinacy of scars and pigmentation making it harder to reverse).
First, I love the packaging. The controllable nozzle let’s you use as much or as little product you’d like while maintaining hygiene and the integrity of the ingredients. The formula is thick, akin to a lotion consistency. It isn’t heavy though, and with my combo skin, it hydrates so my dry parts aren’t flaky and my T-zone doesn’t need to compensate producing extra oil to combat dehydration.
I do set my entire face because it does offer a beautiful, natural glow, but I prefer matte finishes to even out my uneven texture. I don’t feel a need to highlight because of the lit-from-within radiance this delivers.
I wear the color medium and find that it’s a great match. Like anything that isn’t your skin, it doesn’t perfectly fit my yellowy olive tone, but is practically undetectable to the human eye. It lasts all day, but that’s because I set it- I’m not sure how it would last on my oily areas without powder. Also, let’s take a moment to appreciate how I SKIP THE CONCEALER when I wear this… unless I have a nuisance of spot, but this covers everything I need it to.
Not sure what kind of witchcraft was put into making this but I don’t really care. It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream, will you marry me?
